Our Sailing Team Placed 1st in Heineken Regatta

The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta celebrated its 42nd edition from March 3 – 6, 2022. This world-renowned sailing event is known for being the largest regatta in the Caribbean and offers four days of World Class Racing and wonderfully entertaining nights keeping with the event’s motto of “Serious Fun”!

With an impact on the sporting community extending beyond the Caribbean into Europe, the United States, and beyond. The 4-day event attracts well over 20,000 visitors annually, from young professionals to businesspersons, from party-goers to international sailors, aging from 18 to 55+ coming from over 37 different countries.

Our team, lead by one of our most seasoned sailor and broker Ian Martin, joined the brigade and finished with stellar results – first place! We are so proud of Ian Martin and his team for this victory on their Leopard Catamaran 45. They also won the Randy D West Trophy for the most noteworthy performance with their cruising One Sails sponsored by Catamaran Guru.

Ian Martin is a South African native and is well known for his sailing and racing adventures from Cape Town to the Caribbean and beyond. He competed in the Whitbread around the World Race (now known as the Ocean Race) on a monohull and still competes in Foxy’s Cat fight in the BVI. Ian and his brother, John, raced in a double-handed transatlantic race and set a new record for the elapsed time to cross the Atlantic which was registered in the Guinness Book of Records.

He cruised extensively with his wife and son and delivered countless vessels before finally settling on the island of Sint Maarten in the Caribbean. He currently owns and operates two Leopard 45 Catamarans for day charter and racing charters in the BVI.

Ian has been a yacht surveyor for 25 years and built and restored monohulls and multihulls.

Ian has a very deep and broad knowledge of sailing boats, both cruising and racing, which can be used to your advantage when you enlist his help when looking for the right boat. See what his clients have to say.
