Testimonial from a Monohull Guy Turned Catamaran Owner

Bailey Catamaran TestimonialsCatamaran or monohull? What are the pros and cons? We hear these questions so often! Well, we changed to a catamaran after living aboard our monohull for 15 years while cruising around the world and there are so many reasons why. We wrote an article about why we changed to a catamaran and reading this, might give you some insight into why a catamaran is, in our opinion the future of sailing.

The Baileys have also changed from a monohull and are now the proud owners of a Lagoon 400 catamaran. Here's what he had to say:

"I discovered Catamaran Guru™ on the Web. I found the site to be very helpful and up-to-date with a lot of information on catamarans that helped an old monohull guy like me get comfortable with a cat and the differences to monohulls."

BVI Cruising & Anchorage Report Update // November 30th 2017

Allende BVI Bathsby Kristiann & Graham Gips on S/V Allende

This is an update to our initial report for bareboat charterers dated October 30th, 2017, and published by our friends at Dream Yacht Charter. This report is intended to be used as a companion to your cruising guide and published charts. Here’s one crew’s update on local conditions at the end of November.

Progress is being made in the British Virgin Islands. The biggest challenge and shock to charter guests is likely to come immediately upon their arrival to the islands and their charter base. Clean-up in the marinas is underway, but it is slow work with many different owners, salvage groups, and insurers involved. Roadways on Tortola are in poor shape and you should allow extra time for taxi transfers.

State Of BVI Anchorages & Businesses Post Hurricane Season 2017

A Look Back At Hurricane Irma

I compiled a short video with images of the aftermath of hurricanes Irma and Maria in the British Virgin Islands and US Virgin Islands.

*Friends and Catamaran Guru™ fans in the islands sent these images to me just after the storms. I have no idea who they belong to or where exactly some of the images were taken (mostly the BVI or S'int Maarten), so if you recognize any of the pictures, please help us identify them. Leave a comment of location and owner of the picture in our comment section below this article

This video reminds us of the utter devastation that these hurricanes left behind in the Caribbean and the Herculean task that now face the people left with the cleanup and rebuilding. All the locals know that devastation is part of the natural cycle of life in the islands and in the past four decades, the Caribbean has been hit by more than 200 major storms. The 2017 season was particularly bad, but as bad as these storms are, they also revive and renew nature and people. Both come back stronger and smarter than before.

Anthony Bourdain Explores Puerto Rico On FP Saba 50

FP Saba 50 featured in puerto rico with CNN Anthony BourdainAnthony Bourdain of CNN's "Parts Unknown", traveled to Puerto Rico to explore the island for the show a few months before Hurricane Maria. We were thrilled that he and his team rented one of our owner's Fountaine Pajot Saba 50's to film part of the show (click on the picture to see the video).

In this sneak peak video, Anthony and his team prepare a sumptuous meal with locally sourced ingredients in the galley of the Saba 50. The galley with a walk-around island and big drawer fridges proved to be more than good enough for one of the world's most famous chefs. What a delight!

Anthony Bourdain, much like every sailing cruiser I know, loved the ambience of eating a local dish prepared onboard while gliding through the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean. But then, we all know that life is best on a sailboat and that food just tastes better onboard!

FP Saba 50 Owner
