Valkyrie is a 2002 Catana 582 Ocean Class. Similar to the 581 with additional luxury features. Located in NYC – United States. Customs duty paid, state sales tax paid – British VAT paid by previous owner.

This is an owner’s version – starboard hull has extensive space for main bunk and huge bathroom, and laundry room – and locking door!. Port side has two similarly sized cabins with en-suite bathrooms, and doors! Another “skipper’s” cabin is accessible through a deck hatch forward of the main cabin on the starboard side.

April 2018 Survey by insurance company – found in great condition. Also surveyed by Coast Guard – with similar results. Survey available upon request.

The Catanas, specifically the 582 series are, IMO, the best ocean cruising vessels available, Along with the major and extremely beneficial enhancements I have made, make this probably the best Ocean Cruiser available. Easily shorthanded operation – for one person – 2 not a problem…Whether local waters or Ocean cruising, and its ready to go – now – 5 minutes notice and we can cross and Ocean.

And you can, too.

As far as cosmetics. Many items have been changed, however, I wouldn’t mind replacing the ceiling, curtains, and a few other cosmetics are a bit shabby.  But, engines, steering, motoring sailing, electronics, navigation it is perfect and ready to go. Has a fresh coat of bottom paint, zincs, and Max-Prop grease (I usually grease the props by snorkel) while being surveyed in April 2018

We do several 4-hour captained (by me) charters per summer in the protected waters of the Hampton’s. People love it. Great to see and feel how wonderful the vessel is through others’ experiences. Comments such as “This is the best day of my life”, ” I’m having so much fun”, etc, etc.

It is a large and beautiful vessel, very safe and sturdy.

Valkyrie is docked in NYC for 2018 , except for July/August in Sag Harbor, NY

  • 58′ Length Water Line

Valkyrie underwent a major refit around 2012 – Have spent in excess of $300,000 on new equipment and refit – this is mostly equipment, minimal yard/labor fees. – All new (please note most of the details are from memory – dates are approximate – I can provide exact details of model numbers, purchase dates, maintenance records, etc., as required.):

  • Heater – diesel hydronic heating system -ITR Hurrican Combi unit. Various heating coils, by-pass valves, thermostats, etc around boat -she has done several NYC winters – and remained toasty warm.

  • Fusion MS_UD650 Marine radio with bluetooth etc – new in 2017. 3 sets of speakers, in 3 zones. Sub-woofer, and amplifier.
  • 1000 watts solar -original – I would only require 500 watts if replacing, and would like a wind generator too.
  • 1000 Amp hours AGM batteries – new last few years.
  • Blue Seas battery and tank monitoring systems.
  • 110 Inverter/Charger – Magnum Energy – with Controller
  • 220 inverter/Charger – Master Volt with Mass Inverter Charger Controller
  • Bat is mostly wired in 110.
  • All major items have breakers at nav station – clearly visible – and all distribution breakers.

  • Shark 110LB(standard size for this boat) Delta type Anchor with 300′ of 1/2″ BBB chain
  • New Stainless steel Anchor rollers with new custom Delrin rollers- very large strong and robust. This entire new package is designed to handle the most extreme conditions – maximum stopping power in deep swift water and hurricanes.
  • Windlass operation via switch at helm, and also by wired remote; capable of reaching the bow.
  • Fortress 125 Sea Anchor
  • Drogue

  • 10 Harken winches 5 hydraulic/manual, 5 manual only – original, well serviced/maintained
  • Engine control is by Teleflex Electronic KE4- main unit at Helm, also wired electronic remote engine control capable of reaching near bow. This is used in conjunction with windless control to stand near the anchor and drive boat up the anchor chain – very worthwhile and valuable. Designed so one person can control the boat, and windless with one hand at the windless for perfect vision and operation.
  • MT-3 Style Manual engine controls as backup – ready to mount quickly at helm station in event of KE4 failure..
  • Reefing lines to main sail run underneath bridegedeck – to main cockpit winch. This works well. However, the lazy jack lines can disrupt the process. I have designed, and installed, and debugged another system to lower and remove the lazy jack system from the cockpit. So never a need to go forward.

Disclaimer: Our “For Sale By Owner” (FSBO) Listings are published purely as an additional service to Catamaran Guru readership. Catamaran Guru does not act as the broker in these transactions. Catamaran Guru is not responsible for the accuracy of the listings and has no control over responsiveness or lack thereof from the boat owners.

Not all sellers use a broker, but it is very beneficial for buyers to utilize the knowledge and negotiation expertise of a broker. There are many facets involved in purchasing a yacht, for example; depending on where the boat is registered, there can be obstacles in documentation, surveys and more. Additionally, using a broker is not an extra expense as it should be worked into the price of the boat.
