WHY ARE CREWED YACHTS A GREAT BUSINESS?
According to Reportlinker.com, amid the COVID-19 crisis, the global market for Yacht Charter estimated at US$6.6 Billion in the year 2020, is projected to reach a revised size of US$9.3 Billion by 2027.
With so many changes in how we can gather and travel, we are seeing a big increase in our crewed yacht charters and attracting a lot of different types of folks:
- People who usually rent bare boats and vacation on cruise ships are opting for luxury crewed charter yachts because the process to charter is simple and you can go in smaller groups.
- People who have been thinking about changing careers and lifestyle for years are now taking the plunge and are opting to purchase a boat as a business and run their own crewed charter.
- People who have a high net worth are also taking notice of the boom in luxury crewed yacht charters and are seeing the many advantages of this type of business including tax advantages.

Hi Dennis, the programs depends largely on the charter management company that you partner with. Having said that, I think you will be hard pressed to get a guaranteed income program from most of the operators and if you do, I wouldn’t take that to the bank as an absolute just yet. We have seen how some companies have defaulted or “deferred” on the guaranteed payment during Covid. The other exotic programs like Dream Easy or Partnership programs were great options and they worked well for the last 15 – 20 years but Covid changed all that. The problem with those programs is that you don’t get title for the boat until your balloon payment at the end of the program, 5-7 years down the line. Therefor, if the charter company goes bust, you can potentially loose the boat. Now after all that said, the charter market is strong and bookings are through the roof, so I believe that it will go gang busters once Covid restrictions are lifted everywhere. So if you choose to partner with any of the charter companies for a guaranteed program or a shared revenue program, we can help you design a program and choose a good company that will work for you.
