Lagoon 77 Catamaran, Mana Kai, Launched in Bordeaux!
As one of the top-selling brokers for ALL large catamaran brands and luxury crewed yachts of 60ft+ worldwide, Catamaran Guru provides innovative ownership programs to substantially reduce the costs of ownership. This Lagoon Seventy7, launched in Bordeaux, France, last week is no exception. The owner contracted us to help him in negotiations with the manufacturer and to help structure the crewed charter management of his yacht.
Stephen arrived to very cold weather in Bordeaux to do the final commissioning and handover of hull number two of the Lagoon 77 to the new owners. She is named Mana Kai, ‘Spirit of the Ocean’ in the Hawaiian language.
The owners are ecstatic and they have good reason to be. It is a very good looking yacht and the sheer scale and dimensions of this catamaran puts it firmly in the super yacht category.
The christening ceremony is scheduled for late April when we will celebrate the completion of this great catamaran and the beginning of the new owner’s journey.
Lagoon Seventy7 Dimensions & Design
The SEVENTY 7’s on-deck dimensions are massive, much like the size of a tennis court (see the drawing below), however she looks in proportion and is an elegant sailing vessel. The product of naval architects Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot-Prévost (VPLP), the Lagoon 77 is now the company’s new flagship and is built by CNB, a division of Groupe Beneteau. The elegant interior is the work of Massimo Gino of Italian Nauta Design while the exterior styling is attributed to Patrick Le Quement.
With a choice of three headsails on hydraulic furlers, the triple-spreader rig is very manageable. With a light displacement just under 126,000 lbs, the SEVENTY 7 carries 396 gallons of water and 740 gallons of fuel. Standard propulsion is provided by 180 HP diesels, although the first hull was upgraded with 230 HP John Deere engines with V-shafts. An approximate cruising speed is 9.2 knots under power and she’ll do up to 12 knots under sail on a beam reach in a 20-knot breeze.
Lagoon 77 Master Stateroom With Private Veranda
The master stateroom in the forward starboard hull is no doubt icing of the cake. Steps lead down to an opulent suite with a king sized bed, a full walk-in cedar lined closet, a desk / work station, a sofa and a large bathroom with a double vanity. 377 sq. ft. is dedicated to the comfort of the owner and this stateroom is luxury personified. But the “piece de resistance” is the personal veranda of over 30 sq. ft. which folds down and opens the master suite up to a stunning ocean view. This optional feature is spectacular!
