CBP ONE App Streamlines Entry into US Ports

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is replacing its CBP ROAM™ app with the new CBP One™ mobile application to further streamline entry into the United States for not only the CBP, but also those preparing for entry. The app helps both foreign travelers and US residents re-entering to determine documentation and services needed for entry and to organize what is required.

The app’s guidance and documentation features are useful to people entering US airports and seaports as well as crossing land borders. This convenient app will also streamline processes for brokers, airline carriers, commercial vessels, freight forwarders, and bus operators.

CBP One Uses for Cruisers

So how will this new app help our sailing community? Here are some examples:

  • Upon return from offshore cruising to a US domestic port of call, if you have an approved cruising license, you can easily report your arrival for pleasure boats will be transitioned to CBP One™ and the CBP ROAM™ application will no longer be available for use.
  • You can use the CBP One app to apply for a cruising license.
  • Sailors who are foreign nationals requiring an I94 form (arrival/departure form) to confirm they were lawfully admitted into the US can get visa information as well as apply for and pay for the form in advance of arrival. Then the completed form can be easily access at the port of entry on their smart device. Saving everyone time especially travelers who don’t have to delay their travel to fill out paperwork.

NOTE: The ability to apply and update a cruising license and Trusted Traveler Program applications will follow in new releases in 2021.

The CBP One’s pleasure boat services are scheduled for release later in 2021, but the I94 services are already in place. Continue to use CBP ROAM for your pleasure boat services until it is fully replaced with CBP One scheduled for 2021. Once you move over to using CBP One, you will use the same login.gov credentials. Note that when you move over to CBP One, you will be required to re-enter your traveler profile information.
