Braised BBQ and Cola Beef Short Ribs

Cola Short Rib RecipeI first tasted this dish at Lola’s on Harrison in Hollywood, Florida, years before it closed permanently. It was so delicious, hearty, and satisfying. It may not be the perfect dish to cook on board, as you need to slow cook it in the oven for 2-3 hours, but it is so worth it! This is a very well-guarded secret recipe but I did find all kinds of variations of the recipe online. I made up my version, not quite the same as Lola’s, but still a really good Fall recipe.

Ingredients

4-5 Pounds of bone-in beef short ribs Montreal Steak Seasoning to taste OR 1tsp Salt & 1 tsp Pepper to taste & 1 tsp Garlic salt 3 tbsp vegetable oil 1 1/2 cups Jack Daniels no.7 Recipe BBQ Sauce 1x 12 ounce can of Coke 2 bay leaves

Directions

Preheat oven to 275 degrees Season the short ribs liberally with Montreal Steak Seasoning OR with salt, pepper & garlic. In a heavy oven-proof pot, heat the vegetable oil and sear each side of the short ribs until they are a nice caramelized brown Combine BBQ Sauce, Coke, bay leaves and add to ribs Cook 2-3 hours or until ribs are cooked through and tender, turning and basting occasionally Remove excess fat with baster. If sauce is too thin, remove ribs, put the pot over medium high heat and reduce the liquid until thick. Add meat and cover with sauce. Season to taste and serve with mash potato or polenta
