- Clear Lake, located between Houston and Galveston, on Upper Galveston Bay is the 3rd largest in-the-water boat population in America behind Marina del Rey, California and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
- It is a 20 minute drive from Houston Hobby Airport (HOU) or 45 minutes from Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH).
- There are 10 marinas in an 8-square-mile area. Most allow live-aboards. Catamaran dock space is usually under $1,000 per month.
- Galveston Bay offers protected inland sailing with access to the Gulf of Mexico and all points beyond.
- There are boat yards with travel lifts capable of hauling just about any size catamaran.
- Service companies are abundant. Everything including engine service, rigging, fiberglass, electronics, sail shops, surveyors, bottom paint, canvass, cleaning, etc. are readily available.
- Most insurance companies consider Clear Lake a safe zone for hurricanes.
