Seabbatical is a small company filling a niche for charterers who prefer to do longterm charters with either a flotilla or their own bareboat. They are not based in any one place. A Seabbatical is more like joining a cruising rally in different parts of the world. They have some of the most popular, modern well equipped ocean ready yachts. Seabbatical mostly do long term charters of a month or more with their longest charter so far of 8 months. Usually their charter guests are families who come back every year for a month long trip but some of their guests specifically come to gain confidence and knowledge that one can only gain by living aboard for an extended period of time. They usually go on to buy a catamaran armed with the exerience they’ve gained on the charter and go long term cruising. What a great way to learn and familiarize yourself with what you want in a cruising catamaran!
Seabbatical’s Ownership Programs are interesting for owners of specifically older or phazed out catamarans coming out of a first tier charter company. While earning revenue your catamatan is professionally managed and well cared for with much less wear and tear. The catamarans usually can stay in the program longer than in conventional companies that would prefer to replace them with newer boats. There are no restrictions on sailing time for the owner. The owner gets 75% of the revenue. pays for expenses and with only 7 – 10 charters per year rather than 25+ charters of conventional charter companies, the costs of turn arounds, management and dockage is appreciably less.
We have had great reports from previous charter guests and owners in their fleet alike. Their charter guests are seasoned sailors who have often owned and cruised boats of a similar size and are well vetted before they are allowed to take the catamaran on a cruise by themselves.
