America’s Cup: Design & Technology in Sailing

Stephen and I were lucky enough to attend the America’s Cup in San Francisco in 2013. It was one of the most thrilling sailing events that we have ever attended. This was the world’s first glimpse of these foiling catamarans and every spectator was in awe as we watched these machines speed by us at 40 knots. The event was no less exciting this year and the America’s Cup remains New Zealand’s Cup!

As the America’s Cup organizers point out: “The line between success and failure has never been finer than in the America’s Cup, and often that line comes down to design”. This video is a great look back at 170 years of technology and innovation in sailing.
