Liveaboard Sailing School in Florida & Bahamas

Catamaran Guru’s broker, Captain Jeff Riecks, is rated one of the best ASA sailing instructors in the country and is a phenomenal teacher. He lived and taught couples aboard his own catamaran, Mira Mar, a Fountaine Pajot Lavezzi 41, for several years. He is extremely knowledgeable not only in sailing techniques but also how to operate and troubleshoot boat systems and electronics.

He offers couples liveaboard ASA sailing schools and / or owner orientations on catamarans, including on an owner’s own catamaran in Florida or Bahamas. In some cases Jeff will do a catamaran delivery with the owners onboard and teach them how to do a passage, weather routing etc.

ASA courses from 103 and up are available along with an ASA 104/114 combo course in a format where you learn firsthand how to apply theory to catamaran sailing and safety.

captain jeff sailing students' Testimonials

I discovered Catamaran Guru on the Web. I found the site to be very helpful and up-to-date with a lot of information on catamarans that helped an old monohull guy like me get comfortable with a cat and the differences to monohulls. I contacted Catamaran Guru to make inquiries on catamarans and was introduced to Captain Jeff Riecks who worked with me on selecting a boat. After getting educated on cats by Captain Jeff, he connected us with Stephen Cockcroft who steered me to a Lagoon 400. Stephen’s unequivocal direction to the Lagoon 400 was very helpful at a time when there weren’t a lot of cats on the market as a result of hurricanes. I have no regrets on the boat I have purchased and am loving it. Once purchased, I needed a captain and crew to help me sail her back to Charleston, SC, from Houston. Captain Jeff said he could take on the delivery and also teach my wife the basics and getting comfortable on the boat once we got to south Florida. Captain Jeff’s knowledge and experience have been indispensable in getting the boat fitted out and ready for the offshore passage. It has been a delight to have such a knowledgeable, experienced and teacher on this trip of a life time for me. Jeff has repeatably gone above and beyond the call of duty”.

  1. Captain Jeff,

My wife and I are looking at sailing cats now for purchase in the near future. We live in Jacksonville Beach, FL, but would likely take the cat down to our house in Puerto Rico. Once we buy a boat, I would be interested in taking the ASA sailing courses on our own boat in Florida.

    Stay tuned!
